The circumstances of the death of Constable Haynes on 31 January 1824 are unknown however he is recorded as having been murdered. He had arrived in Australia on the First Fleet aboard the ship Alexander and received his Certificate of Freedom in 1810. He was originally tried at Gloucester on 13 July 1785 for receiving stolen goods and was transported for 14 years. (Sometimes recorded as HAINES and murdered in 1804). At the time of his death the constable was aged 52 years and was serving in Sydney. He had been a constable for over seven years prior to his death.
